Ivylocker® for Families with Palliative or Hospice Care Needs
Palliative care (pronounced pal-lee-uh-tiv) is specialized medical care for people with serious illness. Palliative care focuses on providing relief from the symptoms and stress of a serious illness. Palliative care can begin at diagnosis, and at the same time as treatment.
Palliative care may be offered for people with illnesses, such as:
Cancer
Heart disease
Lung diseases
Kidney failure
Dementia
HIV/AIDS
ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis)
The goal of Palliative care is to improve quality of life for both the patient and the family.
Palliative care is provided by a specially-trained team of doctors, nurses, social workers and other specialists who work together with a patient’s doctors to provide an extra layer of support. It is appropriate at any age and at any stage in a serious illness and can be provided along with curative treatment.
Hospice Care:
Hospice care begins after treatment of the disease is stopped and when it is clear that the person is not going to survive the illness.
Hospice care is usually offered only when the person is expected to live 6 months or less.
At IvyLocker®, we believe that both types of care, Palliative and Hospice warrant taking measures to ensure that others know where your important documents are located and what your wishes are.
